Professor Hugo de Lasa is an internationally renowned chemical engineer and a leading authority in chemical reaction engineering, catalysis, photocatalysis, fluidization, and reactor design. He is Distinguished University Professor in the Department of Chemical and Biochemical Engineering at Western University, Canada, and founded the Chemical Reactor Engineering Centre (CREC) in 1988, a globally recognized hub for reactor engineering research. His pioneering work has advanced sustainable chemical processes, environmental catalysis, renewable energy, hydrogen production, and industrial reactor scale-up, with collaborations spanning over 25 countries. A Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering and the Chemical Institute of Canada, he has received numerous prestigious honours, including the Professional Engineers Ontario Research & Development Medal, the Canadian Society for Chemical Engineering Awards in Industrial Practice and the R.S. Jane Memorial Award, along with multiple honorary doctorates and international recognitions for his outstanding contributions to chemical reaction engineering and catalysis.
