Prof. Dan Sweeney

Dr. Daniel (Dan) Sweeney is a mechanical engineer, entrepreneur and researcher whose work spans affordable technology design, clean energy and sustainable development. He currently serves as CTO and Co-Founder of JumpStream Technologies, where he leads the design of hardware for JumpToPC, an affordable personal computing solution, and as a Research Scientist and Lecturer at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), where he heads the Biomass Fuel & Cookstoves Group at MIT D-Lab.  His research and teaching focus on engineering solutions for underserved communities, particularly in biomass conversion, cookstoves, and air quality. He is active in the International Standards Organization (ISO) Technical Committee on Clean Cooking Solutions and has led international workshops, including serving as lead instructor for the 2016 International Development Design Summit on Cookstoves in Kampala, Uganda. Prof.Dan is also a co-founder of social businesses in Uganda and India.
