Prof. Ajay Mandal FRSC

Dr. Ajay Mandal is Professor in the Department of Petroleum Engineering at IIT (ISM) Dhanbad and Professor In-charge of the Central Library. An expert in reservoir engineering, enhanced oil recovery (EOR), gas hydrates, and carbon dioxide sequestration, his research focuses on advanced surfactant, polymer, nanoparticle, and foam-based technologies for improving hydrocarbon recovery. He has published over 265 research papers, received more than 14,000 citations (H-index 71), holds a patent on Gemini surfactants for EOR, and has led numerous industry-sponsored research and consultancy projects with organizations including ONGC, Oil India, and Cairn Oil & Gas. A Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry and Professional Member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers, he serves on the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas's Enhanced Recovery Committee and was ranked 1st  worldwide in Petroleum Engineering and Enhanced Oil Recovery by ScholarGPS (2024–25).
