Mr. Ajay Ratan is Executive Director – Institute of Drilling & Well Engineering (IDWE) at ONGC and a senior petroleum engineering professional with over three decades of experience across offshore and onshore well services, production operations, joint venture management, field development, and corporate strategy in the upstream oil and gas sector. A graduate of Indian School of Mines, he has led several strategic operational and business initiatives across ONGC. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he played a key role in ensuring uninterrupted offshore production and operational continuity in ONGC Mumbai under challenging conditions.
He has led multiple system improvement and operational optimisation initiatives, including policy enhancement, procurement streamlining, and digital transformation programmes. He has managed key joint venture portfolios and led initiatives related to production sustenance, field revival, regulatory coordination, and resolution of complex commercial and contractual matters. Currently, at IDWE, he is spearheading the institute’s transformation into ONGC’s Centre of Excellence for Drilling, Well Engineering, and Well Services, with a strong focus on technology integration, Digital/AI implementation, and operational excellence.
