Dr. Satish Chandra Tripathi is former Dy. Director General, Geological Survey of India, Founder Secretary, The Society of Earth Scientists and Executive Director, SHIVA Foundation dedicated to the conservation of geological and cultural heritage. He has carried out extensive geological investigations of Northwestern and Sikkim Himalaya and Sone-Narmada region of central India. His scientific research on dinosaur fossil bearing rocks of Dhar district of Madhya Pradesh is widely acclaimed. He has organized over 14 international and national conferences and field workshops, published two books and over 40 research papers. Off late, Dr. Tripathi focused on the geological heritage conservation, the issue that is largely ignored in India. He is credited to bring important geoheritage sites of India on the international platform and got them recognized under First and Second 100 IUGS Global Geoheritage Sites. He organized ‘Walk to Save Our Geoheritage’ in several cities, geoheritage field workshops and several geoheritage focused events. He is now putting up all efforts to establish first UNESCO Global Geopark in India.
